Control Resonant 2026: Remedy’s Bold Next Game

With chaos spilling out from the Oldest House walls, Remedy Entertainment is going to further confuse the surreal and supernatural world of Control. The sequel to the heavily-awaited original Control, now named Control Resonant, is an ambitious action-RPG game that will be released in 2026.

The new title, originally known as Control 2, features a new character, a radical gameplay change and an enormous change of location that literally throws the idea of the sequel far away, thus showing the fans that the developers take creative risks. If you love to play narrative-driven games, are into the supernatural genre or like to follow the deeply intertwined universe of Remedy, then Control Resonant should be your next ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌game.

What‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Is Control Resonant?

Control Resonant is the follow-up with the same main characters to Remedy Entertainment’s critically acclaimed 2019 hit Control. The game still carries on the narrative of the original, but the developer has been very emphatic that it is not a normal sequel—and that’s precisely what makes it so thrilling.

The studio claims the title is such that new players can easily get in without having played Control and fans of the series will find more profound story connections.

Mikael Kasurinen, the creative director, refers to it as “not a safe sequel, which is a very accurate way of describing the experimental nature of Remedy’s ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌project.

A‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ New Hero Protagonist Emerges

One of the major changes in Control Resonant is the character that you can play. The game moves from Jesse Faden to Dylan Faden, Jesse's brother, so you will be playing as Dylan.

Dylan was kept in isolation for many years by the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC), but he is freed during a huge supernatural disaster that threatens to tear apart the very fabric of reality. Now, as a new weapon in the hands of the very people who locked him up, Dylan has to face the single most likely cosmic entity causing the fabric of Manhattan—and possibly the whole universe—to warp.

While the storyline progresses, Dylan will also be looking for Jesse, thus the sequel being a direct connection to the original game’s emotional ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌core.

Manhattan‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Replaces the Oldest House

Another significant change is the setting. Instead of the spooky, ever-changing hallways of the Oldest House, Control Resonant goes beyond a redesigned Manhattan.

Although Remedy doesn't quite refer to it as an open-world game, the studio does confirm that this will be their biggest and most expansive environment with a lot of the new features like verticality, exploration and supernatural distortions being spread out over a whole city.

Just this change makes Control Resonant one of the most daring-action RPGs for PS5, Xbox and PC to be released in the near ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌future.

New‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Gameplay and Combat Mechanics

Moreover, gameplay is changing significantly in a fashion that really matters. Control Resonant brings in a melee weapon that can change its shape, thus, indicating that the emphasis on close-range combat with the use of supernatural powers is going to be stronger.

Remedy has been very secretive about the types of enemies and, as a matter of fact, it hardly ever mentions the Hiss but from the combat scenes that can be seen, it appears that battles will be quicker, more brutal and more physically challenging to a higher degree than previously and the fighters will be more willing to try out their skills.

— Developers say the sequel goes further with:

  • RPG systems that are more intricate
  • Player abilities that are expanded
  • Combat encounters on a larger scale
  • More freedom in exploration and progression

Basically, everything suggests that Control Resonant is the game with the most ambitious mechanics in terms of which has been developed by Remedy so ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌far.

Part‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ of Remedy’s Connected Universe

Remedy has been creating a networked narrative world with the inclusion of Alan Wake which is another title in the universe, after the release of Control. Control Resonant is the latest game in that series and it deepens the studio’s standing as one of the most complicated, lore-rich storytellers in the industry.

On top of that, this follow-up comes in a very significant time for Remedy. After the difficult launch of FBC: Firebreak and a change in the studio's leadership, Control Resonant is generally considered a comeback or farewell record—a restart that could literally change the way of the ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌studio.

Control‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Resonant Release Date and Platforms

It is still unknown when exactly Control Resonant will be released, but it's a fact that the game will come out in 2026 on:

  • PlayStation 5
  • Xbox Series X|S
  • PC (Steam & Epic Games Store)
  • Mac (Steam & App Store)

The fact that the game will be released on several platforms means that it will be one of the most anticipated games of 2026, not only by console users but also by the PC ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌gamers.

Why‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Control Resonant Is One of the Most Anticipated Games of 2026

Control Resonant is making a noise outside the box of an already hugely packed release calendar, by its brave narrative direction, new protagonist, open world and polished action-RPG mechanics. Remedy is not just giving a sequel—they are redefining what Control could be. For players, atmospheric storytelling, experimental gameplay and next-gen action RPG experiences, Control Resonant is becoming a title that is impossible to overlook.

Final Thoughts

If Remedy comes through with its vision, Control Resonant might be counted as one of the landmark games of 2026. It has all the characteristics which made the original Control so unforgettable, that is, being bold, risky and refreshingly indifferent to the safe path. Longtime fans, as well, as newcomers, this sequel is just the kind of reality that would make them lose themselves again, a reality where nothing is stable, nothing is normal and control is always an ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌illusion.
